Thinking about leaving hospitality for a corporate job

Education

I have been in hospitality for over 10 years now, working my way up from serving into management. On paper it probably looks great—lots of experience, team leadership, handling operations—but honestly, I am exhausted. The hours are brutal, the pressure never really ends, and it feels like no matter how much you give, it is still not enough.

I have been applying outside of hospitality but it is tough. Most of the responses I get are just other restaurants or hotels reaching out through job boards, even when I did not apply. I know I would probably take a pay cut if I switched industries, but at this point I would trade some salary for a normal work schedule and a bit of balance.

The hardest part is figuring out how to make my experience sound relevant to the corporate world. A lot of what I have done is building systems, training people, and making sure things run consistently. Preston talks about this as the “30 percent rule”—focusing on culture and structure so businesses actually work long term. That has basically been my day-to-day for years, but I am not sure how to translate that for non-hospitality jobs.

If anyone here has left hospitality and landed on the corporate side, what worked for you? What industries took your skills seriously? Any advice would really help, because right now I just need a clear direction out.
