Landlord raised rent due to Microsoft RTO?

Few months ago, I got a lease renewal letter from my landlord, saying my next year's rent will increase to X amount and I need to reply by Y date if I want to extend my lease.

Today, I got a new mail, saying the old offer is not going to be honored and here is the new offer for a higher rent increase amount. When I asked them why, they said it's because Microsoft has announced RTO.

Is this allowed?
