Bragging that she doesn’t do what other people do?
This question is about my mom.
So I know people will vent about people in their life whim they have to deal with who annoy them. Like venting to your spouse about your boss or something.
But my mom does this thing where she talks about things other people do or have done, in a situation that did not involve her, with the ultimate point seeming to be so that she can be like “I would never do that”, potentially hoping that I will join in. Almost like shes ultimately having these conversations to brag in a weird way. In these cases she is not venting, she usually has a big smile. And again they aren’t anything to do with her. It will be like “my friend xyz gets jealous when abc happens with her in laws, I can’t imagine being like that”. Which yes, she is usually correct that whatever person is acting irrationally. But if its not affecting her, its not like she is wanting to confide emotions, or maybe she is?
I suspect its not normal but maybe it is, I have just not seen other other people do this and she did it several times when I visited her last and find it sort of irritating and kind of uncomfortable. Because while, ok, maybe I don’t have the exact same hang up as friend xyz, but I do have my own, as does she, as does everyone I know. Because noones perfect and we all have moments of unreasonable feelings. It just feels weird.
