Those of you who left the oilfield, are you happy / proud where you are now?
Basically, the story is my first job after gradating was Field Engineer for one of the major companies. I was working a lot in the shop building tools and out in the field. Traveled to sites across the US and also went offshore at one point. Then, I quit, which I won’t get into why as it’s personal. But, it wasn’t even a lay off situation and I wouldn’t have been laid off until 5 years later (that’s when my direct team members got laid off).
So, my question is, those of you who also left, what are you doing now and are you proud of your job? Do you enjoy it? It seems like nothing is as interesting as the oilfield. Everything is lame in comparison and I don’t think there’s anywhere for me to go from here. It’s like I wasted everything that I worked hard for. I used to feel proud of what I do, now I hate talking about what I do for work.
