Vacuum sealed bags immediately leaking.

I just purchased a nesco vacuum sealer. It's actually working really well and liking it so far. I am trying to seal dehydrated apples. But the apples keep poking holes in the bags. The apples were cut to 1/4" with the skin left on. I've tried putting less in the bags and it's still a roll of the dice. I'm sure leaving the skin on the apples is making the problem worse, but I don't want to remove the skin. Has anyone else run into this problem and have any recommendations?
