Hi I’m new and confused
First off I’m sorry this is so long. So Friday (yesterday) I had an ultrasound done because I’ve been having pelvic pain for years and never thought anything of it, but now it’s getting worse and traveling around my belly button in a circle back down to pelvic/uterus. I also have irregular periods and I always have. When I was younger they’d be 7/9 days but super super heavy. Like bleed through a super super tampon and nighttime pad within an hour. The entire period almost. As I got older my periods started to spread out but were still heavy and painful. I’m 23 now for maybe three years now I’ve had “ghost” periods with all the symptoms of a period just no bleeding. Now it’s like I can go months without a real period or I’ll spot for 10/20 days straight. I’ll throw blood clots the size of my thumb both on AND off my period and no spotting when it happens. Also on my period I get stringy fleshy pieces of red material that I thought was clots but now I’m considering it might be tissue.
Honestly I feel like I get them more off my period since I don’t get regular periods. But to be honest I’m also staring to think my light spotting/periods are just normal periods? And I’m just used to awful ones. I do have an IUD now too.
My app says my cycle length average is 60 days with a variation of 48 days and my average period length is 8 days with a variation of 4 days.
During the ultrasound I was still spotting but I wouldn’t consider it my period, 1/2 days after. Like maybe you’ll find a drop or two of blood once or twice in the entire day. Anyways, the doctor called me back same day and said they found that I had polycystic ovaries with fluid in my uterus and an egg in each ovary. I’m pretty sure she stated I did have PCOS because of the period symptoms/ovaries but my hormones aren’t tested yet.
She didn’t really go over what any of it meant just asked if I knew i had it already and there was miscommunication because she thought I scheduled my consult when the pain first started and was going to tell me to wait and come back, but when I said it’s been on for years and getting worse she gave me a referral to a gyno. I’m waiting to get in now. She did say it’s because the PCOS shouldn’t be causing me pain and I’ll need further testing. Maybe testing of the fluid in my uterus but she said it’s probably period blood. Again i was barely spotting during the ultrasound so I’m not sure I’d have enough blood left in my uterus to be excessive on an ultrasound tbh. Yall let me know tho if you know.
I do have a child who will be 4yo next month. I had gotten pregnant within three months of unprotected sex. I got pregnant when I was 18 and already had irregular/missing periods that was blamed on my hypothyroidism. I also do not grow any excess hair at ALL. Literally only on my lower legs and armpits/genitals and not even on the bikini line really. Nor am I heavily overweight (145 and 5’4 but I do manual labor and have giant boobs so it’s really not as overweight as it sounds, my doctors haven’t told me to lose weight to help my symptoms so I don’t think they’re concerned on my weight)
I’m only saying this because I’m surprised I have/could have PCOS as I didn’t have any of the super known/common symptoms and characteristics. I’m learning through some research now that obviously that isn’t the case.
Does this sound like PCOS? I’m sure I have it since I have the irregular periods and polycystic ovaries but hey you never know. Could this also be something like fibroids or endometriosis? I also have GI issues we thought were IBS but now I’m suspecting it’s all thanks to my lady bits.
Also, what tests/things should I consider asking about or for when I go into the gynecologist or see my pcp again? Because I’m scared I’ll go in thinking they’ll know about the conditions or possible causes when they don’t actually and don’t know what to look for and what not. I’ve had it happen before with other conditions I have.
Oh and I’m not sure what it means to have an egg in each ovary after your period, unfortunately I am not the brightest crayon in the box. Does that mean I’m ovulating and I have a mature egg in each ovary? Like if I had unprotected sex with no birth control this cycle I could potentially have twins? If someone could help answer 🥲 thank you 🙏
