Advice for Administering Eye Medication?

Our senior pup was prescribed an eye gel for a scratched cornea, which should be applied three times per day. He's never been super cooperative with meds, and he does bite sometimes. Any advice on a good technique for administering the gel? I have watched a few videos, but the dogs in those were way more chill than my dog would ever be.
