[RANT] The majority of modern day developers, please, stop this

Discussion

I will start this post by saying that this rant is purely from my own perspective and I hope you will take everything I wrote here with a grain of salt. I am open to all ideas and perspectives that do not match with my own.

I am tired of the majority of modern day developers that excel in nothing but create an actual good gaming experience. I will talk about developers working on games with at least a decent development budget, developers who have the power, knowledge and resources to create something truly amazing with the help from the community, but choose not doing so, purely for financial gain.

Please, just stop this. I hate when ambitious projects turn to crap, or when a good idea is badly implemented, or when it starts all great, then to became worse than ever.

I understand the fact that people are not perfect and nothing can be. But what I can not understand, is why some developers have to turn a good game into a frustrating one, just because they want to profit from it. I hate loot boxes, I hate paid DLCS, I hate subscriptions, I hate controversial mechanics reworks (when the rules of the game change dramatically), I hate "buy currency in game", I hate recycling old games and coming with absolutely nothing new or interesting, I hate ads, I hate the lack of sandbox mode or experimenting with the game (for example, in some games, I would like to have both an infinite resources mode and a classic one - like you have in Minecraft), I hate putting up for sale barely finished games, I hate badly implemented anti-piracy measures (not saying that they should not protect their game, but having to connect to server just to check my licence is annoying), I hate platform exclusives (if it works on Switch, probably it could work on everything else too), I hate when gaming developers tease us with a truly amazing gameplay, then to deliver a totally different product, I hate when a game takes forever to finish, without actually offering something new and the list can go forever.

Do not get me wrong, I understand that the development of games costs a lot (salaries, electricity, materials...) and the fact that modern mechanics and features are more complicated to implement, but please, find a way to gain money to finance those, so that it does not reflect into the game itself.

I really liked older games, from the same studios and developers, who prioritised gaming experience rather than financial gain. How they could do these in the past and now they can't?

Maybe there is something I do not understand about this industry, but I still do not understand how we got into this mess.

I know that not every studio is like that, and I truly appreciate those, but for the rest, just stop this nonsense and make high quality games. It is truly embarrassing when a small team of independent developers create mods that fix and improve what the main studios couldn't.

I have seen a lot of new games that seemed promising and great, then to find out about the shortcomings mentioned above. Can't I just buy a game for one time and enjoy it forever, and being able to finish it completely, without any additional purchases or internet connection for single player?

Thank you for your patience to read this and I hope you agree with at least some points mentioned above.
