Using Coravin with Screw Cap Vermouth – Overkill or Worthwhile?
I just picked up a Coravin wine preservation system and I also have some of the screw-cap adapters. I was thinking about using it on bottles of Dolin dry vermouth. On one hand, it feels like overkill to use the Coravin on vermouth, but on the other hand, it might help keep it tasting fresh longer.
I go through a fair amount of vermouth since I like making martinis at home—usually classic 2:1 gin-to-vermouth, but I experiment with different ratios too. I’ve read that if you keep vermouth in the fridge with the bottle sealed, it can last up to 3 months without losing too much quality.
So my question is: do you think using the Coravin for vermouth is worth it, or should I just stick to keeping it sealed in the fridge? It wouldn’t inconvenience me at all to use the Coravin—it’s just a matter of whether it’s actually beneficial.
Also, since I’ll have vermouth open anyway, if anyone has recommendations for good dry vermouth cocktails (beyond the classic martini), I’d love to hear them.
