Why are horses put in stalls when almost no other farm animals are?

Of course I've seen other farm animals in stalls where the barns were originally built for horses or in special circumstances when they need to be quarantined or something, but for the most part when I see other animals in barns, they are all mixed together in one large room. Why do horses get their own stalls?
