I'm Seeking a Little Digital to VHS conversion advice

I've been converting over using the DVD to VHS transfer on some things, but I'm getting loss in some videos and was thinking I should just buy a cheap dongle adapter and hook my VCR into my PC.

Will any ole cheap $15-$30 HDMI to Composite work? Or is there a specific brand I should be looking at?
