Does anyone else find it hard to have a sense of self outside of their children?
Hello! I am a 25F parent of two little boys with another one on the way. I was diagnosed with borderline personality when I was 19 years old I had my first child at 21 up until I had my child. I really really struggled with who I was as a person, but once my oldest was born, I knew that it was my job to better myself for my child. I have been an active therapy since 19. I do have other diagnoses aside from just borderline personality. I have panic disorder major depression and CPTSD. I love every second of being a mom to my children. I do the best with what I have because unfortunately, I am not stable enough to choose the right second parent for my children, so everything falls on my shoulders, but that’s OK because they will never know who never clapped for them. Last week my therapist asked me if I felt like I had a secure sense of self, which I found to be funny because my therapist knows about my diagnosis and I just simply said yes and no. I find comfort and knowing that I am a mom because I am able to give my children what I never had and what I needed, but I am so afraid that they’re going to grow up watching me be so unsure of who I am as a person that is this going to affect them, I should probably also mention that I am consistently on medicine and have been for years I also worry that as my kids get older, they will hold some sort of resentment against me because their father‘s decided to not be a part of their lives.
