Retreiving items = walk simulator?

Am I doing something wrong? Sometimes quests want me to fetch an item which I need to hold with 1 hand and it wants me to move it +500 meters away to an NPC or whatever.

BUT i am not able to fasttravel, ride the bike etc. or else it drops the item.

I am walking many minutes with no enemies in between. I dont understand this.

There are alot of these quests. Am I doing something wrong here?
