And more tuning…

You guys should know now that I’m a tuning guy. I love messing with different tunings. I can use my ears for the sound I want but I like the data with the tune bot as well. My ears always seem to like:

(In Hz)

Kick: 50-60 Snare: 180-195 Floor Tom 16”: 75 Rack 12”: 95-105 Rack 10”: 123-133

Pretty standard. But I don’t understand is most people will tune the kicks just enough to get the wrinkles out and while that sounds amazing on the table, when I bring that over and set it all up again, its just too loose and I can’t for the life of me get both heads to interact with each other at that low of a tuning.

You’ll notice that your beater will be hitting like a 80hz because the front head isn’t talking to it. I’ve had to keep going up half turns on the front head for the Hzs to finally come down to a fundamental 50hz(The sweet spot).

I know there’s other nerds out there so what’s your blueprint look like and I’m curious when you guys record and mix, tuning just above a wrinkle would be a nightmare with the unnecessary high Hzs coming through from a lot of slapping around. No?
