Router configuration - external routing and bypass mode
I self-host several Dockerized web services (e.g. Immich, Jellyfin, Paperless) on a NAS/home server behind an Asus router and a traditional VDSL modem. Reverse proxy handles HTTPS subdomains via Let's Encrypt, accessible externally via port forwarding.
Considering switching to Starlink (residential or roaming), but I'm concerned about:
- Whether I can run the Starlink router in bypass mode and pass all traffic to my Asus router
- Viability of exposing public-facing services (via port forwarding or alternative methods) with Starlink’s CGNAT limitations
- Best practices for routing multiple HTTPS subdomains to internal Docker containers from outside the network
- Whether reverse tunneling (e.g. VPS relay, Tailscale, Cloudflare Tunnel) is necessary or overkill
- Reliability of dynamic DNS with Starlink’s IP handling
Has anyone successfully hosted multiple web apps from home using Starlink? Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t) for you.
