How come the other languages of italy are so different

As a spanish speaker, italian is very intelligible to me, especially if they are speaking slow, but i've heard clips of brescia, neapolitan etc. and they seem to have far less mutual intelligibility even though they all descend from latin, how come? Are there other languages that caused them to evolve more rapidly?
