AITA for crying over a hypothetical?
I (NB14) went to my aunt's (F58) house today. We started talking about our dogs and we mentioned how my dog, Buddy (M4), is really resistant to any training. He's smart, he just uses it to be a jerk, especially with peeing inside the house. We've tried literally everything, he goes outside hourly, but he always will just sneak away from me and my grandma (F75) and go inside.
Back on topic, we mentioned his resistance to training and my aunt said "You know, if his owner was anyone but you, he would've been shot by now." And my eyes immediately started getting wet. She got upset and I tried to explain but ended up full on sobbing. She said that it was stupid to cry over this because it's just a hypothetical and it's not like she was saying that she was going to shoot him. I kept trying to explain but kept crying harder making her even more upset. She started to say that I was insulting her by insinuating that she would shoot Buddy, even though she wouldn't, and I ended up yelling that I know she wouldn't do that, and that wasn't why I was crying. I tried to explain that he was almost like a son to me but she kept repeating the same thing.
I ended up running to the bathroom for the next hour and kept crying. When I left, my grandma said I should apologize and also got mad at me. My aunt also sent a condescending text saying "Sorry, I didnt know you got so upset over hypotheticals" when we left.
Am I in the wrong? Was I overreacting? I don't know. I've always been highly emotional my whole life, so I don't know if I was just letting my emotions get ahold of me like my other aunts say
