[Minnesota] would a judge know if you turned yourself in vs arrested

Someone I know has a bench warrant issued for accidentally missing their court date. They are nervous to turn themselves in, but are going to this week. Do judges usually act more lenient to those who turn themselves in right away vs avoiding it until they actually get arrested? Thanks
