can i really talk to nature/its elements? +help

I am not a witch nor do I practice witchcraft, despite my great interest (bc of my age). However, I have seen witches saying that they told trees, rivers or the air about something that they needed a solution with, so I have been wondering if it really works or if they are lying. I don't doubt much that it is real, because I know the enormous power of Mother Nature, but still.

I need help with something very serious that could affect the life (literally their life) of someone I care about a lot. As I don't know how and can't do spells yet, I thought about telling my situation to some natural phenomenon of our great nature, just as I saw people saying they do. Trees or something. Please help. I am genuinely desperate.
