What are the most common dog names in your country?
Saw the neighbor down the block out looking for their dog. They were calling his name but I couldn’t quite hear. Patches? Bandit?
That got me thinking about dog names and how they come in and out of fashion. For example, Fido was very common for dogs about 150 years ago in the US. Abraham Lincoln had a dog named Fido (from “faithful” in Latin) and apparently it caught on with the general population. It became the cliche dog name, along with Spot.
These days I feel like dogs in the US are often named:
Luna Bella Charlie Max ? Maybe: Deoge (or however you spell it—it’s D-O-G and you pronounce each letter)? Bodhi? I don’t know but I feel like I hear those last two a lot at the dog park.
I just looked it up and here’s the top 10 according to Chewy:
Bella Luna Daisy Lucy Max Charlie Bailey Cooper Buddy Sadie
Names I feel like I used to hear a lot more as a kid, but don’t anymore. Patches Bandit Bingo Benji Abby Toby Maggie Sam Buster Fluffy (though I did meet one recently) Fifi
What seem to be the common or popular dog names where you live?
