Conservator process
Hello, I was wondering what the process of becoming a conservator involves. From the tiny bit I’ve heard, I think it means you have to take the mentally ill person to court and go against them and their wishes? Like a court trial of you vs. them? And you have to have papers served to them? My 28-yr-old son is schizophrenic and refuses all treatment and is in constant delusions. He will be facing jail a second time, which terrifies him. So he’s making offerings to the gods by digging holes in the yard and pouring in wine (or coffee) and bread, talks to himself constantly, is paranoid and avoids contact with everyone, makes sacrificial fires in his room and has started a couple fires but put them out. He lives with my parents after a scary incident where my husband kicked him out. He will not comply with getting government aid for food costs. He will not be seen by a doctor, and I think a psychiatrist has to declare him gravely disabled, is that right? He will not see any doctor for any reason. I feel like he will end up either in prison or homeless someday. Can anyone just give a basic rundown of what it’s like to obtain conservatorship? I live in California by the way.
