THE WHITE RIVER: Sengoku Period Themed Horror Novel Synopsis I've been working on, if you stumble upon this please take a read and give me some feedback thanks! :)
“The currents hide a hunger long forgotten.”
Shirokawa, a small farming village set among rolling farmlands, lay on a contested frontier, its people hardened by generations of war and the countless men it had already lost. When the news of war reached the village, the elders whispered among themselves of an old myth, a power that might save them—or at least spare some of their own. Rentarō, the last scion of a fallen samurai line, is among the first to march, and among the first to return, gravely wounded, his sword arm lost. He tries to settle into the village, to reclaim a life marked by defeat, but the memory of the front lines clings, a weight that will not lift.
With his return, small shifts begin to stir in Shirokawa: children wander farther than they should, returning unsettled; a chill hangs in the air that no fire can touch; shadows stretch longer than evening allows. Whispers thread through the village, low and constant, carrying half-forgotten tales and fears the elders dare not voice. Rentarō senses the tension pressing in around him, but cannot name it, and though he survived the war, he cannot know what price is yet to be paid—or whether he will escape what quietly closes in.
