my cat hates me

I have two cats, Suki and Spade. We’ve had Spade, our boy cat, for over two years, and we just adopted Suki, our girl cat in January. They’ve never been best friends, but they’ve been able to tolerate one another thus far.

However… today we took Suki to get groomed because she has long hair. When we brought her back, Spade immediately started hissing, growling and almost screaming. We knew we had to separate them because he was being super aggressive, but when I went to pick him up he screamed at me super loud like I’ve never heard before in my life.

I was able to lure him into the upstairs bathroom, but he hisses if I try to get too close, and when I gave him Suki’s bandana with her scent on it, all he does is hiss at it. I’ve tried giving him treats to associate her smell with something positive.

I think what sucks most is that there has never been any problems between me and Spade, and to not even be able to pet him feels really bad, but obviously I know he needs space right now. I just don’t know how to get him okay with me being around him again.

Any and all advice is welcome. Please, please help me!!
