2009 HHR wheel bearings
So I'm torn.. I need front wheel bearings for my low mileage hhr (30000 miles).
Shop price for repair $1300
Backyard mechanic $500
But.. what if I do it? Sure it'll be expensive, I'll need to buy all the tools to do it. (I'm not a mechanic) I put together a part and tool list and it looks like if I buy everything new (vs buying used tools on fb or ebay) it'll cost me about $1100 to do the job myself. But.. I'll own a nice little collection of tools, jack, jack stands, etc.. so in the future I'll be able to do other repairs.
I've watched a bunch of videos on the job and it looks pretty straight forward. Nothing out of my comfort zone.
Thoughts? Give it a shot? Take it to a shop? Hire the guy on Facebook that my friends recommended?
It's my primary vehicle so I can't really do without it. I'll have two days to handle the repair worst case. (Looks like maybe a couple hour job for someone doing it for the first time)
