Have you ever noticed the massive wealth gap in Sydney and just feel like such a failure?
Curious on everyone’s opinions.
Since being back in Sydney I’ve been having a rough time (like many people, inflation is rough, and life seems to be about luck).
I can’t lie: I get so quite thrown off about the massive wealth gap, since being back here.
E.gs:
-
Having to listen to my boss brag about going away to Europe, and how her daughter has this big career opportunity at 17, so it’s vacation + career trial test to land a contract. Mind you, they go away every year, business class or first cause they’re comfortably loaded. Kid is in expensive private school.

Hearing people come in and openly brag to me about their vacations they’re taking, buying their 16 year old’s range rovers, massive mansion in Sydney, etc they have. The 10-year old was whining because there was a certain country her daddy didn’t take her to. But he has now promised he would. She rolled her eyes.

Hearing little kids (teenagers) make fun of other girls they know that their “friend” is in public school and laughing behind her back.
It’s boggling to me in a way. Not because of like envy (more power to them), but such a mind opening realization of how much of a piece of horse manure I am. I work 2 jobs, 6 days a week. Sometimes 7. All my money goes to overpriced rent. Despite doing full time hours. My boss is taking advantage of me treating me as a casual so I cannot even go away on vacation to see my family.
I lost over 15 kg at one point due to a rough time restarting (couldn’t afford food).
Despite working the 2 jobs and buying nothing and living out of boxes for months (since it all goes to mainly rent + food) the most I’ve managed to save is $1,000.
I genuinely don’t know why I’m working so hard, or what I’m doing wrong and I kinda just accepted that wealth seems to be a draw of luck: who you’re born to, or if you’re lucky with timing.
It’s kind crazy. Like even my boss’s kid, if she doesn’t pass the trials, she wants to be a doctor. She’s financially covered and is given a luxury apartment to split away from at 18. Their lives are just so easy and just guaranteed success. Parents pay for everything. Imagine being 16–17 and travelling majority of the world business class cause rich parents.
