Request for Help
Hi r/Catholicism. I’m reaching out to this community because I’m lost in a storm of emotions following the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk, and I need your prayers, wisdom, and shared experiences to help me navigate it.
Grief has hit me like a fog I can’t shake, mixed with raw anger, shock, and that endless “why?” Why would someone take a life over ideas and debate? I’m struggling to process it all. Part of me is desperate for spiritual counsel—clinging to God’s promises like Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Another part aches for reassurance that America—and our world—can endure and heal from such evil. And deep down, I just crave understanding to make sense of the heartbreak.
It feels like God is testing me right now: to hold fast to my moral compass, to resist hate and choose mercy and compassion instead. But the sheer senselessness of it, and seeing cheerful reactions from some corners of the internet… it’s crushed something in me. I catch myself thinking, “They’re not human. Humans have compassion. Humans have empathy.” And I know that’s not right—that’s the devil whispering division. How do I fight that? How do I forgive when it feels impossible?
If you’ve walked through similar valleys—grief over violence, wrestling with righteous anger, or finding God’s hand in the chaos—please share your stories or advice. A relevant Bible verse, a saint’s intercession, or just a prayer would mean everything. I’m trying to lean into my faith, but I need this subreddit’s strength right now. Thank you, and God bless you all.
