[Online][CoC][EST] (new players welcome!) Dark Tidings in Feudal Japan - Long-term Campaign
During the Sengoku (warring states) Period (1467–1568), civil wars have upset the balance of power in Japan. Feudal lords clamor for power and vassals rebel against their masters seeking their own place in the sun. Meanwhile, yokai, oni, and spirits roam the land striking fear and vengeance to all they encounter. In the midst of all of this strife, terrible rumors have began circulating around the secluded castle town of Dousen. Most who travel there never return. Those that do have gone insane, spinning tales about a great darkness looming over the town. The peasantry suspect bandits have taken hold of the castle while local lords worry that Dousen may be the staging grounds of a sneak attack by one of their rivals. Your story begins in a caravan heading to Dousen. For reasons only known to you, you must travel to Dousen no matter the dangers that await!
Hey there! I've been playing ttrpgs on and off for a while and I've been looking to start a long term campaign with a group of enthusiastic investigators! I've just finished a short-term campaign and several of the players wanted to continue with a longer campaign. The starting scenario is a homebrew in feudal Japan with a focus on survival horror, combat, yokai, and ancient gods. If you are interested, please read the rest of the post and submit the application below.
Depending on if new players join, I may start with a oneshot just to teach everyone how to play before moving onto the homebrew.
Schedule info:
(Time is adjustable if group agrees) Still not decided on the exact day to start depending on everyone's schedule. Our current availability is Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday 4 PM - 8 PM EST on discord and roll20. I plan on the first session being someday in the next 1-2 weeks. Please do not sign up unless you are committed to a long-term campaign and willing to have some flexibility with everyone's schedule.
The details:
This scenario scenario does have a high risk of characters dying so I recommend having 2+ characters prepared. Before the session, I can share resources and help with making characters.
Magic will be a major part of this scenario. Many of these occupations have access to magic from the start and/or have unique skills. Occupations in this scenario include (but not limited to):
FU SUI SENSEI
SAMURAI
SHINOBI
SHOGUNATE SPY
METSUKE
YAKUZA
BUDDHIST PRIEST
YAMABUSHI (specialized Buddhist mountain ascetics)
HEREDITARY YOUKAI HUNTER
SHINTO PRIEST (KANNUSHI)
ITAKO (blind female Shinto shamanesses)
KOTODAMA MASTER
TAOIST ALCHEMIST
The Group:
I'm looking for a chill group of about 3-5 players who love to roleplay and have fun. New players welcome! Preferably 18+. No racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.
Application:
PM me or comment below:
- Preferred name

- What from this post appeals to you?
- What aspects of ttrpgs most interest you?
- (optional) Any specific occupations you are interested in for your character
- (optional) One interesting thing you like to share about yourself
- (optional) Oh the horror! You have successfully made contact with Cthulhu and ask it to DM its favorite ttrpg, but before you can seal the contract, it demands the soul of your firstborn as collateral if you break its rules of being punctual and friendly in its weekly
gamesrituals. What do you do?
