Taxation is Theft in the Philippines

Here in the Philippines, calling taxation “necessary” is hard to justify. Why? Because the government consistently squanders the hard-earned money of ordinary Filipinos.

Every peso we pay in taxes whether income tax, VAT, or local fees is supposed to fund public services: roads, hospitals, education. But what do we actually get? Projects that are incomplete or overpriced, ghost employees on the payroll, and billions lost to corruption scandals that make headlines but never lead to real accountability.

When the government can’t even manage the funds it already collects, demanding more from citizens becomes theft, plain and simple. Taxpayers are forced to hand over their money, only for a corrupt system to funnel most of it into the pockets of politicians, bureaucrats, and their cronies. Meanwhile, we struggle with inflation, poor public services, and the cost of surviving.

True governance should be about serving the people, not feeding a system that siphons off their labor. Until the Philippines addresses corruption at every level, taxation isn’t just unfair it’s theft.

If you’re tired of watching your money vanish while those in power grow richer, it’s time we ask: why are we paying for a system that doesn’t even work for us?
