Will T&F become a pro sport?

Currently athletes study or work while competing on the track. They are trained by their wife, husband, mother or father. Will T&F take the step from an amateur to a professional sport, like football (I mean both the handball version and the real one), formula 1, and cycling? What is needed for it to become a professional sport?
