Do I qualify for overtime pay?
Location: California
Not sure if this is the right place but I can't find a clear answer online. I just covered a coworkers vacation. I worked 8 days consecutively, 8 hours each day. But the first 3 days were the last 3 days of a pay period and the next 5 days are the first 5 of a new pay period. So they 8days straight is split on 2 different pay checks. Does any of that time worked qualify for over time since I didn't technically work more then 40 hours in a workweek?
Or would the 7th consecutive day qualify for overtime? On the ca government website it says "One and one-half times the employee's regular rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of eight hours up to and including 12 hours in any workday, and for the first eight hours worked on the seventh consecutive day of work in a workweek" but I'm unclear if my 7th consecutive day doesn't qualify since they are different pay periods .
Any website resources are helpful..
Also I'm not part of a union. Idk if that matters.
