$10 an hour as a 1099?

Employment

I work in East Tennessee as a peer support specialist working with patients needing alcohol and drug therapy. I have a bachelors degree.

I work part time at an agency, MWF 10-4. I can’t flex and work 11-5 or 9-3 even though there are people there. I have my own roster of patients that I see one on one. I was just told I am going to be running alcohol and drug classes at night via zoom, which I’ve never done. I do data entry, and I’m working on their website.

I feel $10 is super low, especially a 1099. I’m on disability as well, and I feel my value is higher than that. My self esteem has taken a hit. I’ve talked to my employer about it, and I was told behavioral health makes far below average.

Can you shed some light on this? This is my first job in 12 years. I love the job and the people there, but the pay is so bad, sometimes I don’t feel like going into work and clocking in. Is this normal for what I’m doing?

Thank you all in advance.
