AITA for doing the dishes?
I put away the dishes my husband hadn’t finished putting away yesterday, loaded the dishwasher, started it, and then asked him when he woke up to unload and reload it once it was done.
There were a lot of dishes piled up (some had been sitting there all week). I asked him around mid-morning and now around dinner time/kid's bedtime. He had chances to do them before we left the house (for three hours) and once we got back, but they’re still not done. I get frustrated because I hate looking at dirty dishes and I just want a cleaner (not perfect) house.
For context: my husband is a stay-at-home parent. I work full-time and also go to school full-time. I don’t expect him to keep the house spotless, that would be unrealistic. What I do hope is that I don’t have to spend my weekends cleaning, or wait around for him to “get around” to basic chores. He also has a window in the middle of the day (2–3 hours) while the kids are at school, so it isn't like there isn't time to fit this in.
What really puts me over the edge is when he gets upset at me for just doing the dishes myself. His argument is that I don’t respect him because he said he’d do it, just “not right this second.” But when “not right this second” turns into hours, I feel like I’m left living in a mess until he feels like tackling it.
So, AITA for doing the dishes instead of waiting? Or am I just stressed and stretched too thin with all my responsibilities (mom/wife/work/school)?
