What if Baz Luhrmann had been in charge of adapting "Cats" to the big screen?

Hi there! I'm not a theater expert-- mostly a casual enjoyer here and there-- but I was just thinking.. what if someone like Baz Luhrmann was in charge of adapting "Cats" to the big screen?

Not all of his films land, but the very chaotic, sometimes absurd energy he injects into many of his films might have matched the campiness of "Cats" better than Tom Hooper. Obviously there were many other issues-- the uncanny CGI and stylistic choices, the forced and obnoxious one-liners that they made Rebel Wilson and James Corden constantly interrupt with-- but he might have come up with something funny, chaotic, and interesting.

What are your thoughts on this? Would Luhrmann have been able to pull it off, or are there other filmmakers who might've had a better chance of doing a decent adaptation?
