To the Christians Suffering with Mental illness

I want to be clear before I Start and say I know every situation is circumstantial, but I want to highlight the dangers of social media on us as Christians and walk you through how I went from a functioning person to a person riddled with severe depression and anxiety over the course of 5 years.

In 2020 you hear many people say “life changed” or “things got weird” well for starters they did because we all experienced a collective trauma, but with time I began to realize that things didn’t “change” but rather the way I viewed the world changed. I was raised a Christian with a positive view on life but during 2021-2022 I consistently kept wondering why the world was so evil?

The big mistake came when I downloaded TikTok, and my fyp was filled with religious tiktoks but with the positive Came also negative. I would see lives debates of people mocking god, I would join these lives in attempts to sway people’s mind but these people were set in their ways debating solely to mock people for their religion and did it because there followers tipped them money. I realized my depression was starting to spike here. And some of these lives made me actually question what I believed In.

But with time it became worse I want to preficit this by saying I only now recognize these things in hind sight. When it was occurring I only knew my depression was spiraling but had no clue why… with time my fyp on TikTok and Facebook were mostly negative things.. mass shootings, school shooting updates, stabbing, children suffering. And I would always watch them because I believed I had to stay informed. But by doing this I only began to dig myself deeper into a hole of Depression.

Which brings me to why I’m here, Charlie Kirk’s death… seeing the reactions of people who are spitting on his grave. It threw me over the edge, and I took time to sit and reflect on my past 5 years… my average screen time is 9 hours a day. Social media destroyed my mental health and gave me this outlook that the world is so evil when there is so much good in it. But the internet always focuses on the bad.. if your a Christian please take time for yourself , limit your time on the internet the next few weeks.. it’s already helping me.
