Looking to buy a small pickup from the 90s, what should I get/look for?

Been on the fence for a while to get a small truck, ever since I got to ride in one of my buddies old Toyota pickup. I like the size of them a lot a lot more than the "small trucks" of today which are basically full size from 20+ years ago. I'm a bit indecisive about which ones are the best tho, between the Tacoma/pickup, Frontier/hard body, ranger and so on. Preferably id wanna try to get one with a manual but not opposed to an automatic if they're good ones. Any info is helpful, thanks!
