Is being reserved and not talking to people the same thing as being unconfident?

I noticed that in society we often equate confidence with being social and talkative. As someone who is selectively social, I never understood this logic. I have been around extroverted people who can be very talkative until it is a girl they want to approach. Now they are shy. Of course, at this point they are lacking confidence. But it got me thinking, do people really think that being quiet means being shy/lacking confidence.

I know for me, i never really been scared to go up and talk to people. I will admit my social skills arent the best so I dont always get far in holding a convo. But i never had the fear the try. The only time I had that fear was high school and it felt completely different. The butterflies and heart pounding sensation used to be what stop me. I dont get that anymore.

Now days, I just dont have a strong desire to talk. The only time is when I am drinking and not because of liquid courage but because Im happier. I have experienced this before sober after a good time with friends. But that is what got me thinking about confidence. Do I lack it? or is it just my personality? I can go up to anyone and ask questions no matter if I am attracted to them. I am known for being socially blunt which backfires alot in interactions. One time I walked into a room where everyone was wearing scrubs. The first question I ask is "why is everyone wearing scrubs. I guess i didnt get the memo". It took people aback and they told me is that how you greet people. And I told them honestly depends what i want from you. And that was a girl that I liked that said that. That is how blunt i am

So what do you guys think?
