Color Painting has been painfully slow

I have 2.2.1.60 and when I select a part to paint, it just becomes non responsive. I never had this problem in the previous versions so I am wondering if there's a setting or if there is a "fix" to this because it's really bad. Also, the methods of painting is different. I don't recall what the old settings were, but for the paint all mode, i cant adjust the face angle if that makes sense. It's paint all or nothing which seems pointless
