I Ranked the Top 23 Players in Each “TECHNIQUE” Attribute

SpoilerManga Discussion

The sub-attributes were taken from the Skill Parameter Summary (SPS), which is available in this Post, and the definitions for each attribute come from this Post made by our fellow u/Bard0ck0bama .

After 2 weeks, here’s the one for the Technique Section — unfortunately or fortunately, the last one.
For this section, I decided to change the ranking format, and honestly, at least for this section, it was definitely the best call I made. I’m not sure if it’s because of the sub-attributes or just the new ranking format, but it made ranking them way easier.

Here are the tier values:

TIER S+: 99 ~ 97
TIER S : 96 ~ 94
TIER S-: 93 ~ 90
TIER A+: 89 ~ 87
TIER A : 86 ~ 84
TIER A-: 83 ~ 80
TIER B+: 79 ~ 77
TIER B : 76 ~ 74
TIER B-: 73 ~ 70
TIER C : Below 69

Keep in mind, my main goal here was to find the ideal tier for each player in each sub-attribute. So, this is NOT in order — I just grouped the players into tiers. Of course, if anyone wants to discuss the order, I’m open, but that wasn’t the main idea while I was ranking them.

Before we dive in, I wanted to share a bit about how I try to measure Dribble. I believe Dribble can be seen as an arithmetic average of Balance, Dribbling, Ball Control, and Feint, since this formula matches the only three players who had all four sub-attributes revealed in their SPS:

  • Nagi - 87 + 82 + 90 + 86 = 345 / 4 = 86.25 → Rounded to 86
  • Isagi - 72 + 64 + 65 + 60 = 261 / 4 = 65.25 → Rounded to 65
  • Bachira - 92 + 97 + 94 + 95 = 378 / 4 = 94.5 → Rounded to 95

Ignore what’s written for Isagi, Shidou, Otoya, and Kunigami — I was just rambling and estimating while ranking them, not to mention it’s in Portuguese.

Thanks to this Dribble estimation method, it’s easier to rationalize ratings for each player. The good thing is, we already know the Dribble of several players, so I just try to predict it based on their Dribble score. In the image, some cases stand out because I think those players have Balance or Feint considerably higher than their Ball Control and Dribbling.

I wanted to share this upfront since it’s directly related to Ball Control, Dribbling, and Feint. But of course, if anyone has questions, feel free to ask.

Just a reminder, this is all just my opinion — nothing here is absolute truth.

TRAPPING :

Well, since this one ends up being pretty “visual” (except for Nagi, who literally got praised by the manga for this sub-stat and straight up has 99 in Trapping), I leaned more towards the technically skilled players, in cases where they didn’t really have that many actual trapping instances shown in matches and/or training. I put Reo in Tier S because of his copy of Nagi’s play, but if we only count his raw technical ability I’d honestly drop him down to Tier A or A+. Ranking Reo in these sub-stats he copied from others, especially when we don’t have that many clear references for the sub-stat itself, always feels kinda tricky.

BALL CONTROL :

Another one that’s pretty visual, but this time it’s easier to rank since we’ve got more players who are actually noted for this sub-stat. My biggest doubts here are with Niko and Sendou — I feel like they could honestly drop to Tier B, but the main reason I put

HEADING :

And now we’re back to that classic situation where a few players really stand out, while most haven’t shown much at all — so this one’s even more open for debate lol.

DRIBBLING :

Well, for this one my biggest doubts are about Isagi, Shidou, and Kuni. They’re the only ones in Tier B- who’ve actually pulled off at least one dribble, but Isagi’s 70 and Kuni’s 71 in Dribble (pre-Ubers match) really got me thinking. As for Shidou, it’s basically just that I feel like he belongs in the same group as them lol.

TACKLING :

This is where things get messy and life’s not so “easy” anymore. Honestly, I’m kinda worried I might’ve put ceiling lower than he actually is, since it’s really tough to compare and rank players in these defensive subattributes. I mean, we literally only have ONE true center back, and everyone else has mostly played as forwards (except Niko and Reo who were midfielders). On top of that, defensive plays are rare to begin with, and most of the tackles we do see usually happen in 2v1 situations. I feel like Kiyora and Yukimiya could drop down to Tier B, while Aryu and Otoya might deserve to move up a tier.

SLIDING TACKLE :

Same deal as Tackle, this one’s defensive too. I feel like Raichi could actually move up to Tier A. As for Niko, if we’re only talking about slide tackles on the ground, he could drop down and swap spots with Raichi — but since he’s pulled off some pretty good “flying tackles” lol, I just lumped those together with the regular ones. By that same logic, Kunigami could theoretically bump up to B+.

DIRECT PLAY :

I’ll keep it straight with this one. I think Otoya maybe deserves Tier S — aside from being a striker who can finish first-time (like Isagi and Shidou, though not on their level), he’s also really solid with quick one-twos (tiki-taka no jutsu lol). Wouldn’t be shocked to see him up there. Kurona I feel could drop to A+, since the preference usually leans toward long passers and strikers who hit one-touch finishes. Karasu could slide down to B+, since one of his best traits is ball keeping. But considering we’ve seen him pull off quick one-twos with PXG and fire fast long passes (like in the Nigeria match), I felt it was fair to bump him up a tier. I also think Aiku could rise to B+ since he’s shown some quick long balls before. Kiyora on the other hand might drop to Tier B, mainly because we barely have any plays from him — and the ones we do have are pretty slow-paced.

POSITIONING :

My main doubts here are with Kurona and Nanase. They showed some solid positioning when linking up in quick one-twos, but defensively that same positioning just wasn’t there (especially Kurona, who basically vanished on defense). That’s why I wouldn’t really find it unfair to drop them down a tier.

PLAYFIELD OF VISION :

Honestly, I kinda suspect Aiku, Karasu, and Hiori might deserve to be in S+, but at the same time that feels like way too many people up there, so I’ll just keep them in S for now. I also think Otoya could sneak into that S- tier.

FEINT :

My biggest doubts here are about the players who showed off off-the-ball feints — specifically Shidou, Isagi, and Otoya — and how good they would actually be compared to players who do feints with the ball, and beyond that. I’m a bit unsure if I set their ceiling too high, or if I should’ve maybe dropped them a tier each.

Wow, the images made the post way longer than I expected.

Anyway, that’s it — with this, I wrap up my little saga of ranking the Top 23 in SPS sub-attributes. I’m thinking of doing a more precise prediction in the future for the Top 23 players, trying to predict — or rather, create an estimate — for every single sub-attribute for all players.

Just keep in mind, these ranks are only my opinion, so feel free to share your thoughts!
