Sherlock Holmes Movies #?????

SpoilerAdaptations

Again, sorry, I don't know what number I'm on. But I couldn't sleep last night and watched more. Here are my reviews.

  1. Sherlock Holmes - Terror by Night | Kanopy
okay, another Rathbone, but this one was way better. Rathbone cracked jokes like he did in the books, showed worry and concerned for Watson & Lestrade and teased Watson. I really like this movie because he's less standoffish.

Nigel's Watson, in this one, is less of a bumbling idiot thank God. And I like during the climax, when they fought Moran, that Watson socked Moran right in the gut. Holmes describes Watson as a man of action in the book (i think, i'm not sure, my public library doesn't have all the books), so that really made me happy.

i noticed that Lestrade and Watson both shared the comedic relief spotlight, which I really liked as well. i'd say it's one of Rathbone's better works. All in all, good movie.

  1. Sherlock Holmes - The Secret Weapon | Kanopy
Another Rathbone. it's set during WW2, which in my opinion feels overdone. Same with Moriarty being alive and then dying again. Like I said, feels overdone.

i wish Rathbone slicked his hair back for this one, for some reason it looks off for the character of Holmes. the plot I really like, the writing i think is done really well. the actor who plays Tobler, amazing actor. I like hearing him talk and i like his little smile.

another gripe is (you guessed it) that they made Watson a bumbling, grumbling oaf. Wish there were more screentime for him, rushing head first into things and being the man of action he's described as. Rathbone made Holmes snarky again, but a bit less then the earlier ones. other then that, a pretty good movie.

  1. Watch The Sign of Four (2001) - Free Movies | Tubi
    okay this was amazing!

Matt Frewer is now my third fav Holmes adaptation. The way he undulates his voice to show Holmes being serious, dramatic, playful and scared is incredible! and the whole climax where he's anxiously trying to rush the chemist so that no one dies? the cherry on top.

im still iffy on Kenneth Welsh as Watson. I understand that Watson is supposedly in his early to late 30s but Welsh makes him feel like he's my grandpa. he does give me GILF vibes though.

I love the actress for Mary. and the fact they didn't immediantly have the ending be Watson and Mary's wedding despite the obvious 'oh, wow, i like her' eye staring was just delicious. the writing was amazing; clearly the director read the book and altered some things for theatrics but he stayed true to the canon.

i would recomend this movie or hell, any with Matt Frewer as Sherlock Holmes in it, to anyone who wants to see more of Brett Holmes but less of Rathbone Holmes.

10/10 would watch again.
