A little hair disaster for the books

First real hair colour disaster of my career also writing this story to share my experiences and get this off my chest, its lovely to be able to speak to a community of Hairstylists. I still cant really wrap my head around what happened but it was definitely a learning experience.

So my client came in yesterday and we wanted to do like a chunky 2000s highlight. Her ends were pretty soild level 10 blonde and her roots were like super dark natural hair like a level 2.

To achieve her goal we discussed doing a couple high lights and lowlights to break up her ends. I didnt want the lowlights to be too warm but I was also aware that I needed to add enough warmth to replace all the pigment through the blonde. I used 5.4 + 4.37 and like a tiny bit of 3.1 I think i shouldn't have added any 3.1 looking back at it. I also just started working for myself and using a new colour line (keune) and this has been my first real mishap with the colour.

I go to rinse the back and it looks great. After a while I rinse the frount, I rinsed the lowlights separately with cold water so it didnt bleed. Once everything was rinsed I did my first shampoo and then my second and as I was rinsing my second shampoo I realised omg all her previously blonde ends were like bright blue.

I was honest with her about what happened and I managed to do abut of clarifying and refoil her hair lucky because the pigment was pretty fresh it came out pretty quickly.

I have just never had a disaster like this happen in my whole career, I would call it a learning experience now and im happy my client was so lovely, patient and impressively calm.
