Should we be blacklisting authors for their opinions?
Ive been seeing more and more readers blacklist authors not for their books but for their personal opinions.
Examples of this are JK Rowling for her views on trans people, Sarah I Maas (and others) for alleged antisemitism/zionism, and now some authors getting dropped just for how they reacted to Charlie Kirk’s death
I get wanting to set boundaries and not support harmful views but sometimes it just feels like we’re turning reading into a purity test. Is buying or enjoying a book the same as endorsing everything the author has ever said? Where do you draw the line?
TL;DR: Blacklisting authors over opinions is becoming common. Do you see it as accountability, or as an impossible purity contest?
