Jump Start

My Passat wasn’t starting so I put a battery charger on it for 30 min and used the start start setting on the charger. The car didn’t start and with the charger switched to start the car started doing a lot of weird stuff. Is there a jump procedure for this car? I’m afraid I damaged electronics.
