AITAH for not telling my leasing management that I would not be renewing?

I rent an apartment with a lease that ends in November. I’ve been renting there for a few years with no problems. In august, I always get an email asking if I am interested in renewing and to respond by a certain date.

I recently started a new job and plan to move closer with minimal lease overlap. So I responded before the deadline that I would not be renewing and will vacate. No confirmation email, but I never received one in the past when I was renewing.

I received a call the other day from a slightly annoyed management worker who informed me I failed to respond by the deadline. I told them there must be a mistake because I did respond. They said they have no email from me. So I checked my email to make sure it wasn’t a draft and it did send on my end. I informed them there must have been a glitch.

They gave me a spiel about the importance of responding so that they can make proper plans. I told them I completely agree and that is why I made sure to respond by the deadline. This didn’t get the best response. Since I am not renewing I was told that this information would have been very helpful sooner. I once again stated I agreed and that this appeared to be an unfortunate error in the system.

Completely ignoring that this was an error I was told about how the deadline is the deadline and that the management graciously extended my deadline and did not have to do so. And they continued that kindness to give me one last chance to respond. I said that I understand the annoyance they must feel, but once again I did respond, but for some reason it did not get received by them.

At the end of the call I said that I was glad we were able to work out the error and the worker started to say something in an irritated tone but stopped themself and just said OK and hung up.
