Ideologies Don't Kill People. People Kill People.

The title is tongue in cheek but I want to discuss what the right is doing in the wake of Kirk's death. The party of "guns don't kill people. People kill people." Have kicked off a new McCarthyism this week with literal demonization of "the left". On the house floor a senator said that all left ideologies are actual, really life evil and must be eradicated.

Every other shooter in recent memory has been called a sick individual with individual motives and as not a symptom of anything more than poor mental health care. Why has this one become a tribal war, and what can we do from here?

The reason is obvious. For years they have been ratcheting up the hatred and tribalism and a political influencer on the right was killed. Their team took a hit and they want to hit back. The solution and what we can do next as democratic socialists is less clear.

How do we move our communities towards pro-social and democratic ideals when they have been fractured into tribes? Professors, journalists, and laymen are being fired for wrongthink. There's a website publicly tracking our posts. Neighbors are snitching on each other and some radicalized folks are asking the president for permission to go door to door looking for "leftists".

New McCarthyism is here, it's backed by the power of the state, and I don't know what we can do.
