Got a horrible haircut while in the early stages of seeing a new guy
I [30F] have always been pretty gender non-conforming and enjoy having short hair from time to time. I mostly just like changing up my hair and having something different every few years. The past 8 months or so, I’ve been growing my hair out from a cut that was only a little longer than a crew cut. It looked like a messy, poofy layered cut that went to about my ears. I finally got in for an actual haircut and style yesterday and… for the first time in my life I am COMPLETELY not okay with my hair.
I wanted a wolfy mullet type look while keeping most of the length I could, but my stylist misunderstood and made it super short with short bangs that are way too close to TERF bangs. I’ve always just rolled with any cut that went shorter than I wanted, but this time I feel so upset any time I look in the mirror and am having a hard time wanting to go out.
Of course, the day I got it cut, I had my third date with the first guy [30M] I’ve seriously liked in over 8 years. I made a short quip about dealing with a shitty haircut and hoped that covered for me, but I’m having a hard time thinking rationally and logically about it and feel like he must hate it. He didn’t make any comments about my hair and still seemed to enjoy the date, so I can’t find a reason to be this upset. A bad hair day is one thing, but I’m stuck with a super short cut for the next few months now. I also just started a new job at a new school, so that’s also adding to my anxiety.
Am I just having a freak out and need to muscle through it until my hair grows out? Is this something a guy will care about if he already knows me as someone who has a lot of varied hairstyles? I mostly have experiences dating other women in my early 20s who were extremely opinionated about my personal style and it absolutely would have tanked their interest in the early stages with a bad haircut.
