A little confused about gameplay.

I've been playing UFC for as long as I can remember and the buttons have been the practically the same the entire time and everything about the games I love. I noticed something tho, I was playing UFC online career mode and it put me with a level 4 so I was going easy on the dude at first and out of nowhere he sped up. I thought it was lag but I had 60 to 70 fps the entire time. I never encountered an glitches that make me speed up during the game it was very strange, I also realized that my hits weren't doing as much damage as they were with other matches with people whose level was the same. Has anyone else encountered this glitch/hack?
