Can I go to HoX/PoX straight from the Astonishing X-Men?

House of X/Powers of X by Jonathan Hickman is often called a good jumping-in point, because it sets up all the stories after it. However, I have also heard that it isn't a good starting point because it heavily references and relies on X-Men history.

I have read Claremont's X-Men run, New X-Men by Grant Morrison and Astonishing X-Men by Whedon & Cassaday. I also have a vague idea what happens in Messiah Complex and Avengers vs. X-Men. Can I start the Krakoan stuff now, or is there still something you would recommend reading beforehand?
