Tax Advice: $50k to $250k

Tax Question

Good morning, hope I'm not breaking any rules here.

I live in the US and am getting out of the Army.

In the Army, I was making roughly $50k in taxable income. Luckily, I've been able to secure a good job offer of around $200k (when accounting for overtime)(could go up to $240k if I'm worked to death, which I easily could be).

I now realize that I will be paying out the ass in taxes.

According to online tax estimators, I could be paying more in taxes than what my base pay was in the Army.

As someone who grew up poor, paying $50k in taxes, while the rest of my family back home is struggling, isn't the most attractive taught (I can't claim them as dependents yet).

My concern is federal taxes. I only have one dependent, rent my house, we're both in college, in the past we've just used the standard deduction, my 401k match is low so I won't be investing in it, I'd like to invest most of my income, I could start a sole proprietorship on the side for either AI or photography.

Please help. Thank you.
