Infinite loading screen when joining server

I get put in a neverending loading screen when i try to join a server, if i alt tab the application stops responding and the one time I have actually managed to make it into the match I was lagging like crazy and got disconnected within 20 seconds. Is there anything I can do to fix this? game worked just fine yesterday.
