After one month in Marocco
Hi all.
To those who don't remember me. I came to Marocco about one month ago with backpack, tent, sleeping bag, no return ticket and tiny amount of money. Without any real plan what to do and where to go. I just wanted to roam and have simple life. Many people said that it would be imposible for me to survive here and I will have miserable life.
The truth is that Marocco is great country. I spent first 2 days sleeping rough in my tent in outskirts of Marrakesh.
On day 3 I meet some very instresting person in Kuthubija mosque who for next 2 weeks was my guide and best friend. (He was older man, who was roaming with no particular goal in similar manner like me).
On day 3 I learned how bargain in suks, and made a lot of friends. I learned the real value of merchendise from wholesellers, so from this point I was able to get good "arabic" price for everything.
My friend gave me lessons in street trading, where to get my stuff from whole-sellers and where to sell it on the street (and how). Soi after just 4 days I was already sellling stuff in the front of mosques and around suks (to locals only). I must say that its very very easy to make a littlebit money in Marocco.
I located the place where I can sleep with other local traders (no tourists) for just 10DH per night. So since then I become self sufficient.
I have already visited Rabat (lived there and traded there for about one week), Rabat, Casa, Agadir, Tan-Tan, Dokhla etc.
Hitchhiked to border with Mauretania for free in just 4 days.
So far my favourite place is Marrakesh. And I'm staying here. People are lovely and honest. It's very easy to make friends, and what's most important: its very safe here - no matter where I'am.
I drink water from tap. I eat mostly bread, milk, vegatables, figs and dates. Never had any stomach problems.
I don't watch tv, and I don't even have a watch or mobile. Time is dictated by sun and Azan (call for prayer). Life never been so good and simple.
I have never been harassed by anyone in suks etc. I often recive some free tea, gifts, juice, water etc. I'm always honest with traders (no money for buying any extra stuff) and they still treat me like King. Sometimes I'm even selling stuff to other traders :)
Same with beggars. I know many of them, and they know me. Sometimes I'm giving them money or food. And even have few favourite beggars:)
Things that I don't like:
- Mosques are closed after prayer
- Not every mosque have toilets
- It's impossible to get permission to sleep in Mosque. (but its possible in madrasa)
- Motorbikes in suks
